Syeda Bhumika Mahmud, currently a Lecturer in the Department of English at the International Standard University (ISU), completed both her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and Master of Arts in English, concentrating on Literatures in English and Cultural Studies, at Jahangirnagar University. She has presented her research at academic platforms, such as the co-authored paper “The Normal By-products of Imperialism?: A Chaotic Reading of George Orwell’s ‘Shooting an Elephant’,” delivered at the National Symposium on English Connects at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) in December 2023. Additionally, her journal publication, “Journey or Destination?: Reinterpretation of ‘Home’ as Differential Space in Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey into Night,” appeared in the first volume of the ISU Journal of English Studies (JES) in the same year.
Before entering academia, Ms. Mahmud held a significant administrative role as Programme Associate at the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD). She also has extensive experience in private tutoring, specializing in the O’ Level English syllabus, for Bangladeshi schools like Sunbeams, South Breeze, HURDCO International School, as well as Malaysian schools such as Nexus International School and International Islamic School Malaysia (IISM). Besides her teaching career, she has worked as a Creative Content Developer, Freelance Writer, and Translator, with notable artistic achievements. Her research interests encompass Discourse Analysis, Gender Studies, Spatial Criticism, and she is eager to further explore Disability Studies, Queer Studies, Cultural Studies, and more.
